The US Surgeon General has asked federal government to think about maintaining marijuana as a Schedule 1 substance i.e. a substance that is illegal to manufacture, distribute, or dispense, saying it should be studied like any other pain relief substance.
Not only does marijuana contain an array of chemical compounds to study, the nation is also facing an opioid epidemic meaning that discussions surrounding non-opioid pain relief options are growing around Capitol Hill, with cannabinoids at the top of the list.
